Identify your destination and real purpose of travel, check the correct visitor visa route, prepare the requested identity, financial and trip evidence, and submit through the official application process. Tourism, visiting family and attending a convocation can require different supporting evidence even when they use the same visitor route.
1. Start with the reason for your visit
A useful travel plan explains where you want to go, why you are going, roughly when you plan to travel and who will pay. A family visit should explain the relationship and host arrangements. A holiday should have a realistic itinerary that fits the time and budget available.
Do not describe employment, long-term study or a planned move as tourism. Check the activities permitted under the exact visa category. For example, the UK's Standard Visitor guidance and the US visitor visa guidance describe the purposes their routes cover.
2. Prepare evidence that fits your circumstances
The destination's official checklist is the starting point. Your documents should tell the same story as the form: the trip purpose, available funds, who is sponsoring the visit and your circumstances in India. An invitation can help explain a family visit but is not an approval guarantee.
Use the list below to prepare for a document review. The final requirements depend on your destination and application route.
- Current passport and relevant previous passports or visas
- Proposed dates, itinerary and accommodation arrangements
- Financial records and an explanation of how the trip is funded
- Employment, business, study or other circumstances relevant to the application
- Host invitation and relationship evidence for a family visit where applicable
- Travel and visa history, including any previous refusals
- Any additional evidence required by the destination's official checklist
3. Keep travel costs and bookings proportionate
There is no universal tourist visa bank-balance figure. Your planned spend, length of visit, income, sponsor arrangements and destination requirements should be considered together. Documents should show the real source of funds, rather than a balance arranged only for an application.
Read the official booking instructions before buying non-refundable travel. The US Department of State advises applicants not to make final travel plans or buy tickets until they have a visa. For other destinations, check whether proposed arrangements, reservations or paid bookings are requested.
4. Submit consistent information and follow official updates
Review names, passport details, travel purpose, employment information, sponsorship and previous visa history across the form and supporting documents. Complete any appointment, biometrics or interview required by the relevant authority.
Keep the application reference, receipts, account access and a copy of the submitted file. Processing times and entry conditions differ by country. A visitor visa is not permission to undertake every activity abroad, and the visa conditions should be read before travelling.
If you have already had a visitor visa refusal
Bring the complete refusal decision and, where available, the earlier application and documents. Identify what the decision actually says before making a new application. Repeating the same file or changing travel purpose without a truthful explanation may leave the original concerns unresolved.
At the Barnala office, a visitor visa discussion can cover the purpose of the trip, host evidence, funds, travel history and the documents that need review. A fresh application should be based on accurate information and the relevant official instructions.
